In collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, Music Box Records is pleased to present for the first time on CD the original motion picture soundtrack of Roger Vadim's Une femme fidèle (The Faithful Woman, 1976) composed by American singer/songwriter Mort Shuman (Sex O'Clock USA) and Pierre Porte (Mr. Klein).

Freely adapted from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' epistolary novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons), Une femme fidèle tells the story of Comte Charles de Lapalmmes (John Finch) and Mathilde Leroy (Sylvia Kristel), two ''doubles'' of Laclos's characters, the Vicomte de Valmont and Madame de Tourvel. For Une femme fidèle, Roger Vadim (And God Created Woman, Barbarella) made another atypical choice by asking Mort Shuman to compose the film's music, which Shuman did, in collaboration with his working partner Pierre Porte.

For the score, Mort Shuman composed a kind of mini-concerto for piano, extremely lyrical, and intended to highlight the pure and sincere aspect of Charles and Mathilde's love affair. This delightful melody is used in different versions throughout the film. Shuman's music echoes in the simplest and most direct way the feelings that drive the two characters.

This present edition has been fully remastered from the original master tape which contains the previously issued LP programs (EMI Pathé and Seven Seas). The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham, discussing the film and the score.
