-4 LI CHIAMAVANO BUD E TERENCE... This is a musical tribute to two Italian actors who have become famous for their parodies of Americans. Sometimes as cowboys and sometimes as policemen, they are really poking fun at the Italian movie industry and its sometimes ludicrous attempts to imitate Hollywood productions.
-6 SPAGHETTI CARTOONS Italy has is own set of original cartoons characters whose music is here presented in arrangements for brass and percussion. First come songs from "The jungle Legend," a series for television from some years back, followed by the theme of the current international success, "Tommy and Oscar"
THE KINGS OF THE NIGHT In this unusual rendition of Mozart’s famous aria from "The Magic Flute" the difficoult soprano part is taken over by the trombones and bass tuba, who then rightly deserve the title, "The kings of the night".
WESTMINISTER (AFTER PURCELL) The piece begins with a quotation of a melody by Henry Purcell, written originally for a performance in Westminister Cathedral. The style is initially similar to that of the English baroque period, but soon undergoes a gradual but radical transformation, with rythms and harmony closer to the music of our time. The last note of the composition, a long Bb played by the bass tuba, is meant to represent the enduring solidity of the structure of the cathedral, and of its spiritual significance.
-11 THE "SPAGHETTI WESTERNS" OF FRANCESCO DE MASI This is a hommage to the versatile and imaginative composer, Francesco De Masi one of the masters of this particular music genre. In it we hear various moods characteristic of the Italian style "Far West", from the melancholic romanticism of "Dream and Shadows"; to the country twang of "Arizona Mountain".
-16 SESSO ALL’ITALIANA This is a medley of themes from various Italian comedies in which the traditional figure of the "latin lover" is more laughable than successeful in his attempts at seduction.
GLI OTTONI ALL’OPERA This brass section went to the opera the other night to hear works of Bellini and Rossini. Here they finally have the opportunity to test their skill at performing parts normally dedicated to the vocal soloists, and to the "other" members of the symphony orchestra. The results are surprising.
CORNO MONELLO A Neapolitan-comic-horn-joke.
