Born in 1910, Domenico Ceccarossi was for decades one of the leading horn players of Europe, a brilliant technician possessed of an extraordinarily sensitive musicality. In playing his instrument he succedes in combinig the elegance of the Franco-Italian-School with elements of the German-Bohemian tradition. The fact that he was able to continue making recordings until relatively old age was proof of Ceccarossi’s Throughly natural talent for his instrument. An additional attest to his reputation, especially in his home country of Italy, was the fact that a number of well-known composers wrote music especially for him, which he played in premiere performances as well as making recordings.
