The movie release was first in Spain, in March 1971, with the original title HISTORIA DE UNA TRAICION, and a month later this thriller was released in Italy under the title NEL BUIO DEL TERRORE, also known as DIABOLICAMENTE SOLE CON IL DELITTO (Italy alternative title), THE GREAT SWINDLE. José Antonio Nieves Conde directed the movie with a distinguished cast, including Marisa Mell Sylva Koscina, Stephen Boyd, Fernando Rey, Massimo Serato, Simón Andreu, Maria Martin, Howard Ross. Carla (Mell) and the wealthy industrial tycoon Luis Montalban (Rey) meet together during a weekend, and the two start a love relationship. Meanwhile Carla also entertains a lesbian relationship with the pretty Lola, a waitress (Koscina). Lola did not know of the love affair between Luis and Carla, so when Lola meets Luis she accepts the court of this mature man, and eventually the couple gets married. Carlo Savina wrote and directed this music score, which creates the perfect atmosphere to the gloomy and thrilling story, where love and death are constantly balanced during the whole film. The love theme is introduced in the track 1, SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT, and then it is resumed later in tracks 7.19 -20, A VOICE, IN THE END. The theme is extremely lyrical for orchestra and trumpet, and also fits saxophones and orchestra with beat elements together with the magical voice of Edda Dell'Orso. Savina created brilliant music pieces of lounge flavor to accompany scenes of partygoers to night clubs and private gardens, such as the crazy and danceable tracks SHAKE IN THE NIGHT (5.15), THREE SITUATIONS (8.13), JAZZY DANCE (14), ONE SITUATION (16), as opposed to the more quiet and intimate sentimental moments, near pure eroticism, of the tracks SWEET GIRL (2), PLEASANT DAY (3), BLUE MEMORY (4), MEMORIES OF LOVE (6), ECHOES (10), SUSPENDING PEACE (12), GOOD NEWS (17). There is also suspense music typical of this genre of movie, as in TIME TO THRILL (11) and MURDER AND RUN (18). The crystalline and fantastic voice of Edda Dell'Orso comes back, as the prominent element, in track 9, WALZ OF VOICES. Thanks to master tapes preserved in very good condition by the Savina family, Intermezzo Media is able to print this excellent stereo CD for the joy of music lovers.
