LA MAFIA UCCIDE SOLO D’ESTATE (THE MAFIA ONLY KILLS IN SUMMER) was directed and written by Pierfrancesco Diliberto, who also played a starring role alongside Cristiana Capotondi, Claudio Gioè and Antonio Bruschetta. It’s the story of a young journalist, Alberto, coming of age in the period of the mafia massacres that exploded with particular ferocity from the ‘80s up to 1992.
The movie deals with the subject in an original way that is at once sarcastic, incisive and touching. With poignant narration and direction, Dilberto’s surprising debut earns great success, garnering various nominations and awards.
Santi Pulvirenti composed a chilling score that brilliantly channels the emotional charge of the images on screen and that, among the other things, features a beautiful end title song in Sicilian dialect, the cherry on the cake of a fine production.
