Directed by a mature Federico Fellini in 1980, LA CITTA DELLE DONNE (aka CITY OF WOMEN) is a cult film that has helped to strengthen the partnership between the Argentine composer and Oscar winner Luis Bacalov and the world of the cinema. In fact since 1960 the production activity of Bacalov is incessant. Among the various soundtracks he has made include: IL VANGELO SECONDO MATTEO (The Gospel According to St. Matthew) 1964, A CISCUNO IL SUO, 1967, CUORI SOLITARI (Lonely Hearts),1970, MILANO CALIBRO 9, 1972. In 1962 he started working with Gianni Morandi, for whom he wrote the music for FATTI MANDARE DALLA MAMMA A PRENDERE IL LATTE (Get sent by the mother to get milk) and a year later, HO CHIUSO LE FINESTRE (I closed the windows) Winner of 4 Silver Ribbons, in THE CITY OF WOMEN Fellini always copes with the originality of the theme of feminism and the struggle for the liberation of women translated from Bacalov's music and starring an exceptional Marcello Mastroianni. During his extraordinary career Bacalov has also worked with numerous directors, including Pier Paolo Pasolini, Ettore Scola and Quentin Tarantino, etc.. LA CITTA DELLE DONNE (aka CITY OF WOMEN) is one of the 30 titles of the new Sugar series dedicated to the soundtracks that have made the history of music for films. The CD comes in a completely remastered version with a new graphic look, and it will be released March 13. All the albums of the series are enriched by the words of the film producer and critic Marco Mueller, who is also the director of the most important festivals of the cinema, and he declared: "The films are the place where music becomes something different because it gained its own role within the whole. Without music films would be amputated of an essential and vital element. When it happened that an important composer has worked together with an important film director, an agreement gushed out between the two strong indipendent personalities, where a great music strengthened a great film and viceversa. The reasoned reproposal of the greatest titles from C.A.M catalogue will try to render account to this part of the adventurous history of the Italian films (and not only Italian). Proposing a shunting line from modern music, an alternative to light music. An whole continent to be ri-discovered".
