Volo Libero

My intention is certainly not to present a commonplace and clichéd documentation of new music by Italian and Swiss composers. Instead this is a many faceted presentation of seven styles, which ought to lead listeners to answer for themselves the question of what is meant by the term "new music". I consider these works to be a synthesis of traditional classical music with the more rigid structures and formulas of new music. In these compositions the piano is exploited to the maximum: the sonoritieas and rhythms derive from every variety of touch and technique on the keys, on the pedals and from within the instrument. This CD is also part of a multimedia project I have been working on for three years with the Spanish painter Susana Talayero and the Italian writer Toni Maraini.  It is entitled "L’Oiseau Prophète" and describes the wonderful bird in a performance which unites painting, music and poetry. A premiere in Rome will be followed by performances in four other European cities. Some of the themes from the project are included on this CD; the cover is a bird painting by susana Talayero.
